DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

WHAT IS DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE?

A deep tissue massage targets the deep layers of the muscle and connective tissue by using deep pressure and slow moving strokes.

● The deepest layers of the muscle

● Tendons

● Fascia

Deep tissue massage usually focuses on a specific problem, such as chronic muscle pain and muscle strains.

Research shows that massage can help with:

● back pain

● neck pain

● headache

● osteoarthritis

● depression and anxiety

● strains or soft tissue injuries

● muscle tension or spasm

DOES DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE HURT?

Deep tissue massage does use more pressure to push deeper into a muscle than other techniques. This added pressure can be uncomfortable for some people but it is often described as “good pain” by fans of the technique. The overall effect of a deep tissue massage should still be relaxing.

Everyone’s pressure tolerance is extremely varied. Pressure that is quite comfortable for one person can be quite painful to another. These differences can also vary between body parts and times. Pressures that are comfortable on your back may be extreme and intense on your arms. Pressures that were fine at your last massage are painful at your next massage.

The key to a good deep massage therapy treatment is a massage therapist who is:

● communicative

● respectful

● attentive

IT DOESN’T HAVE TO HURT TO HELP

Studies have shown benefits in pain reduction for low back problems through both gentler massage techniques and deeper pressured massage.
